A Joint Opposition delegation, led by Parliamentarian Namaal Rajapaksa, yesterday met representatives from the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU), in Colombo.
Mufti Rizwe, the President of the ACJU, joined the discussion representing his membership.
Rajapaksa later tweeted that the meeting was on the anti-government protest march scheduled to take place in Colombo on September 05.
Many political analysts have stated that the Joint Opposition draws little support from Sri Lankan Muslim community - mainly due to the Rajapaksa group's seeming affiliation with the ultra-nationalist Sinhala Buddhist organizations.
The discussion, therefore, can be viewed as a move to bridge the 'confidence gap' between the JO and the Muslim community.
However, none of the senior members of the Joint Opposition attended the discussion. Parliamentarian Kanchana Wijesekera and some provincial level representatives of the Joint Opposition attended the event,
