The International Cricket Council (ICC) has advised Sports Minister Faizser Mustapha to appoint 5 member committee including the current Competent Authority to run Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), until its elections are held. 

Mustapha held discussions with two ICC top executives - namely its Chairman Shashank Manohar and CEO David Richardson -  in Dubai yesterday to discuss the current status of administration of Sri Lanka Cricket. 

However, Sports Ministry sources said no decision had so far been made on other members who will be appointed to the committee. 

SLC, the top governing body for the country's most popular sport, has into various issues with elections being postponed due to multiple issues. 

The entity is now placed under a competent authority appointed by the Sports Minister. The absence of a properly elected board of governance  has given rise to various administrative issues, Asian Mirror learns. 

The ICC has asked Sri Lanka to hold elections for Sri Lanka Cricket board within six months. Failing to do so will result in ICC reconsidering Sri Lanka's membership status in the ICC, the Council said in a statement.

"The Board agreed to allow a representative of the Sri Lankan Sports Minister to sit as an observer to the ICC Board and Full Council, but requested that elections for Sri Lanka Cricket are held within six months, failing which SLC's Membership status would be considered," the ICC statement, released two months ago, said. 

It is in this context that the Sri Lankan Sports Minister today held discussions with the ICC's top executives. 

The timeline for the SLC election has not yet been announced by the country's Sports Ministry.
