A well-known local bakery chain has begun to use the Chinese language at some of its outlet in order to access an expanding Chinese market.

The bakery, located on R. A. de Mel Mawatha in Colombo 3, is in the vicinity of a high-rise building that is currently being constructed by Chinese workers.

The bakery is frequented by the workers, and the menu on display now advertises items in Chinese as well as English.

According to the Chinese embassy, over 6000 construction workers are currently in the country, working on various development projects.
