Prime Minister Ranil Wickrrmesinghe will lead the committee to look into the Delimitation Commission report and make recommendations to hold the Provincial Council election.
The move comes the wake of the defeat of the Delimitation Commission report in Parliament with a resounding margin of 139 votes. Not a single member of the House voted in favour of the commission report tabled by Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Mustapha.
Media reports said Rs.21million had been spent for the sittings of the commission, its field wok and the preparation of the report.
The Speaker said the committee would be appointed to look into the matter and determine the way forward.
Other members of the committee are R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, Periyasami Mutulingam, Prof. Balasundaram Pillai and Dr. A.S.M. Nawfeel.
The Joint Opposition has stated that the appointment of a committee is a delaying tactic to postpone the Provincial Council election scheduled for this year.
