The Special High Court for Corruption today granted bail to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath and three other accused in a Rs. 500 million corruption case. 

Senarath's case was the first to be taken up before the Special High Court inaugurated by Justice Minister Thalatha Atukorale earlier this week. 

Ali Sabry, apearing before the former President's Chief of Staff, asked for more time from the HC to study the charges against his client. 

Following the request, the judges decided to re-fix the case for September 19. 

In addition to Senarath, former Managing Director of Insurance Corporation Piyadasa Kudabalage, former Samurdhi Commissioner Neil Hapuhinna and Lasantha Bandara have also been indicted in the case. 

The indictment said the four accused had illegally invested Rs. 500 million belonging to the state owned Litro Gas company in Hlanco Resort and Spa. 

They have been prosecuted under the Offences Against Public Property Act and Money Laundering Act.

The case was taken up before High Court judges Sampath Wijeyaratne, Sampath Abeykone and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.
