Former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has cooperated with the Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities for the first time after the commencement of the Police inquiry into the bond scam.
The CID yesterday informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate that Mahendran had requested for a copy of the warrant on his arrest and the charges against him.
The request has been made through INTERPOL Singapore.
The CID is expected to submit a detailed report at the next hearing on the measures it had taken to arrest the former Central Bank Governor.
This request leaves room to speculate that Mahendran may return to Sri Lanka with his lawyers, at some point, and surrender to court as he is the main suspect in the Treasury Bonds case.
The request also confirms that Mahendran is currently in Singapore where he is a citizen.
Recently, a photograph was circulated online where the former Central Bank Governor was seen outside a shop in the China Town area , in Singapore.
