The Criminal Investigations Department has informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate that Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne ha helped Chandana Hettiarachchi alias Navy Sampath, the main suspect in the murders of 11 youth in Colombo. 

Wijegunaratne is a former Navy Commander and currently the Chief of Defence Staff, the senior-most position in the active military service. 

It was revealed yesterday that the suspect had received Rs. 500000 from a Navy account to flee to Malaysia to avoid Police arrest. 

Sampath was arrested in Colombo by the CID, recently, with a forged ID.
