The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the Fort Magistrate that Navy Sampath alias Chandana Hettiarachchi has obtained Rs. 500000 from a Navy bank account to flee to Malaysia.
Hettiarachchi, according to the CID, fled to Malaysia to avoid his arrest.
Hettiarachchi is a suspect in the murders of 11 Tamil youth in Colombo. He was recently arrested by the CID in Colombo with a forged ID.
At the time of his arrest, Hettiarachchi was working as a watchman at an estate in the Dompe area.
Following the CID submission, the Fort Magistrate ordered the Manager of the Bank Of Ceylon Main Branch to provide the details of transaction to the Police.
The CID is currently in the process of establishing who authorized the bank to pay Rs. 500000 to Hettiarachhi, an officer formerly attached to the Navy.
