Marine Environment Protection Authority Initiates Investigations Into How Clinical Waste From India Ended Up On Sri Lankan Shores India Today

The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) has initiated  investigations into how a quantity of clinical waste ended up on Sri Lankan shores.


Waste products such as expired medicines, bottles, polythene packages and syringes were found washed up on the shores of Puttalam, leading the MEPA to begin its investigation.


The clinical waste is believed to have been disposed from India.


Fishermen fear the waste will affect fish and their livelihoods in the region.
