Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said a state bank had given Rs. 4000 as a non-performance loan to a company owned by a minister.
"The bank must disclose how this loan was released. Banks usually adopt stringent regulations when issuing loans to the public," he said, speaking to media yesterday.
The Minister also said it was up to the Central Bank to inquire into it.
"We are closely observing the questionable approach of the state bank and the corrective action taken by the Central Bank," he added stating that a Director of the state bank was responsible for the "deal".
The former Finance Minister said it was important to find out if the Cabinet ministers interfered with the affairs of the bank.
Some officials of the Central Bank operate with the intention of destroying the country's economy, he added.
