Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera said no decision had been made to increase salaries of Parliamentarians. 

Addressing media yesterday, Samaraweera said he was opposed to increasing salaries of anyone at this juncture. 

However, multiple media reports have revealed that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has received a request to increase salaries of MPs by 215% and place them on the same salary scale with judges.

Commenting on the increased prices of vehicles, the Finance Minister said there was a 'Tsunami' of small vehicles in the country. 

"During the first six months of the country, 24000 vehicles have been imported to the country at a cost of USD 616 million," he said.
