Initial Police investigations reveal that an underworld gang is involved in the murder of LG councilor Ranjan Silva who was shot dead last night in Ratmalana. 

He was the father of Sri Lankan cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva. 

A worker attached to the Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council has also been injured in the shootout. The gangsters had apparently come in a white car. 

Informed Police sources said the Police Special Task Force has launched an investigation into the incident. 

Ranjan Silva, a member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), was 62 when he died.
