The President made this remark while addressing a meeting in Badulla where re reviewed the progress of a programme called "Grama Shakthi."
"Although some are affected by this inclement weather, it is also a blessing in disguise," the President said.
"Rainfall increases the GDP. There will be about 2.5%-3% growth in the GDP due to rain, even if the government does not do any development work," he added, describing it as the 'nature's blessings'.
"Some parts of Sri Lanka were experiencing the worst drought in so may years. I was happy to hear that tanks in Anuradhapura are now overflowing after heavy rains," he added.
