Former State Timber Corporation (STC) Chairman Anuruddha Polgampola was released on bail by the Killinochchi Magistrate this morning.
He was released on a personal bail of Rs. 500, 000 and also prevented from leaving the country.
Polgampola was arrested by the CID on May 16 on charges of fraud amounting to Rs. 8 million.
He was appointed Chairman replacing P. Dissanayake who was arrested on May 3 for accepting a large bribe, together with President’s Chief of Staff Dr. I. H. K. Mahanama
However, Polgampola served as Chairman for mere days, before his appointment was suspended based on concerns raised by the public.
Former UPFA MP Shantha Bandara was later appointed to the position.
