The Cabinet of Ministers has granted permission to increase bus fare by 6.56%, a short while ago. 

However, they have also decided that the minimum bus fare will remain unchanged. 

The weekly Cabinet meeting held at the President's Office, this morning, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. 

Private Bus Owners Association last week demanded a 10% increase in bus fare next week. 

The Association said a price hike was necessary due to increased fuel prices.
