President Maithripala Sirisena will have no option but to go for another Cabinet reshuffle if the SLFP decides to quit unity government, informed government sources said.
Currently, a number of SLFP seniors hold top government positions and they will have to leave their current posts if the SLFP makes decides to part ways.
"In that case, the UNP will form a government on its own," a senior government spokesman said, adding that it would pave the way for the fourth Cabinet reshuffle of the current government.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee is likely to hold a vote among its Central Committee members on whether it should continue in the unity government.
The proposal to leave the unity government will be presented to the Centra Committee by Minister John Seneviratne, a Senior Vice Chairman of the party.
The crucial Central Committee meeting of the SLFP is scheduled to take place on May 17 under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
