Questions have been raised if BBC Sri Lanka journalist Azzam Ameen was summoned before the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Police because he questioned Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Minister Rajitha Senaratne yesterday.
The BBC Sri Lanka journalist was asked to appear before the CID, purportedly, to investigate a tweet by the President's Media Division that the journalist had retweeted.
However, it is being said that the journalist is summoned for questioning the Cabinet Spokesperson yesterday, asking him why the President had appointed a twice-arrested person - Anuruddha Polgampola - as Chairman of the State Timber Corporation.
Ameen asked the Cabinet Spokesperson if this was the "scientific" manner in which the President promised to make changes in the government.
Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Rajitha Senaratne attempted to brush the questions aside with indifferent answers, but it was evident both the spokesperson and the Minister for Justice who was also present were discomfited by the questions and unable to provide a valid answer.
Senior journalist Munza Mushtaq tweeted: 'Wonder if this is @MaithripalaS's way of penalizing @AzzamAmeen for the questions he asked during the Q & A including why he appointed a tainted politician to the timber corporation.'
