Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who sits in the opposition, took to Twitter today to defend a Tamil woman who had been harassed and abused by a train attendant while travelling the Colombo-Jaffna route yesterday.

The video of the woman being spoken to in filth was posted by a bystander on Twitter yesterday, but was not picked up by any of the major news outlets.

MP Rajapaksa however drew attention to the incident, tweeting “Harassment is harassment, as racism is racism – both have no place in #Srilanka. Hoping that authorities take necessary action immediately to ensure this doesn’t happen to anyone again”.
