Mahindananda Aluthgamage Before FCID To Make A Statement: Questioned On Alleged Misuse Of State Funds

Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage arrived before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of the Police this morning to make a statement.

He is being questioned into alleged misuse of state funds amounting to Rs. 39 million for the purchase of carrom and checkers boards in 2014.

He is alleged to have distributed the sports goods worth Rs. 39 million to select schools and sports clubs to enhance his political clout.

Earlier Aluthgamage attempted to obtain a court order preventing the FCID from arresting him under the Public Property Act. His request, however, was dismissed by the judiciary saying there was no legal basis to issue such an order.

Former SATHOSA Chairman Nalin Fernando was arrested over the same crime on April 6, but was released on bail on April 10.
