Minister Sarath Amunugama is currently in the process of preparing a policy document with the UNP on the continuation of the unity government.
Amunugama, a member of the SLFP, was appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena to lead negotiations with the UNP on the continuation of the current government.
It is learnt that Amunugama is now interacting with a UNP group led by former UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema on the future course of action of the government.
Sources close to Sirisena told Asian Mirror that the President had decided to continue with the UNP as his main coalition partner for the next 19 month.
They said Amunugama would arrive at a final agreement with the UNP before the ceremonial opening of the new Parliamentary session on May 08.
