The United National Party and the parliamentary group made a unanimous decision to officially request from the President to remove the six SLFP Ministers who voted against the Prime Ministers during the no-confidence vote from the government.
The decision comes in the wake of the instructions given by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to UNP backbenchers to withdraw the no-confidence motion against the dissident SLFP ministers.
The instruction was given, party sources said, as the no-confidence motion did not have endorsement from the Working Committee.
The UNP Working Committee also decide to discuss the future course of action on the dissident SLFP Ministers based on the response from the President.
During the no-confidence vote against the Prime Minister last week, 15 SLFP MPs, including 6 Cabinet ministers, voted against the Premier.
