Prime Minister Ranil Wickrenesinghe has requested UNP backbenchers to withdraw the no-confidence motion against dissident SLFP Ministers in the government.
The UNP backbenchers today handed over the no-confidence motion to the Speaker.
The no-confidence motion is against six SLFP Cabinet Ministers who voted against the Prime Minister during the no-confidence vote and Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala who, according to them, acted in a partial manner.
The reason for the Prime Minister's directive to withdraw the no-confidence motion is yet unknown.
