While Transport Minister Nimal Sirpala de Silva is busy preparing his party for the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, airport workers have struck work blocking the entrance road to the Katunaike International Airport.
De Silva, this morning, was at a meeting with Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, where the former officially convery his party position to the Premier. De silva, on behalf of the SLFP, requested Wickremesinghe to resign from his before the vote on the no-confidence motion.
This request was flatly refused by the United National Party, led by the Prime Minister.
While the Minister was at this meeting, the Airport workers launched their union action, triggering a tense situation at Sri Lanka's busiest international airport.
They have currently blocked the airport entrance road, causing severe inconvenience to foreigners and locals using the airport.
