Indian police today said that Seven Sri Lankan passports which were found in a bag abandoned on a road in India were handed over to its holders.
An Indian by the name of Mohammed, an employee of a private firm, found the bag with seven Sri Lankan passports in it lying abandoned on a road in R A Puram area of the city.
Mohammed has handed over the bag to the police.
Indian police said that the passports belonged to Ravichandran, Vadivambigai, Sai, Aarthy, Shanmugarathinasamy, Gowthaman, Visakam of a single family.
The family had lost their passports 10 days ago in a bus and had lodged a complaint with the police. They were visiting India to obtain medical treatment for a family member.
The passports were subjected to immediate suspicion as the number of Sri Lankan asylum seekers entering India has increased significantly. After investigations the Indian police have handed over the passports to the respective holders.
