Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne has hosted a dinner for President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe last night.
The move was aimed at ironing out differences between the two leaders ahead of the debate on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Although the discussions were cordial, sources close to President Sirisena said there was no final agreement over the future of the government.
The SLFP, led by President Sirisena, has not yet made its position clear on the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.
The no-confidence motion has come against a backdrop where relations between the President and the Prime Minister has hit a new low with the President transferring the Central Bank, which remained under the Policy Planning and Economic Affairs ministry, to the Finance Ministry.
