A grade 5 student has sent a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena sayin she is being harassed by the Principal of her school due to 'HIV fears'.
The mother of the child is suspected to have HIV and she had contributed to a television documentary on HIV prevention as a volunteer.
The child, in her letter, had said the Principal ridiculed her by showing the video documentary to others in the school.
She had also told the President that the Principal cursed her in public and ensured that other students in the school did not engage with her.
She had sought the President's intervention to sit for the Grade 5 examination. She says she is under severe mental pressure due to ill-treatment by the school principal and is not in a position to carry out her studies.
