The Elections Commission has issued a gazette announcing Rosy Senanayake as the Mayoress of Colombo. 

With this announcement, Senanayake becomes the first female mayor of Sri Lanka's commercial capital. 

At the last Local Government last month, the UNP won the Colombo Municipal Council with a sweeping majority, despite the party's poor performance island wide. 

Before becoming the Mayoress of Colombo, Senanayake was the Deputy Chief of Staff of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
