The Joint Opposition, led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has found itself it a fresh soup over two controversies involving their prominent members. 

The first incident is an alleged assault on a bus driver committed by Joint opposition Provincial Councilor M.K Kasun and his wife. A Video footage in which the Provincial Councilor's wife is seen sporting a pistol has gone viral. Both the Provincial Councilor and his wife have been remanded over the assault while further Police inquiries are underway. 

Kasun is the son of former politician M.K. Ranjith alias Chandi Malli, a close ally of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. 

After the murder of Ranjith, a man from Beliatte who allegedly had close links with the 'underworld' in the South, Kasun entered into a politics and went on to become a Provincial Councilor. 

In a separate incident, JO Parliamentarian Keheliya Rambukwella's son, Sri Lankan national cricketer Ramitha Rambukwella, was arrested by Police for assaulting two university students while sporting a pistol. 

The incident involving Rambukwella took place in less than a day after Kasun and his wife were arrested. 

Rambukwella, who still does not have a permanent place in the Sri Lankan national cricket team, is no stranger to controversies. 

A few years ago, on a flight from St. Lucia to London, a seemingly intoxicated caused mild panic by attempting to open the cabin door at 35,000 feet. 

He was fined and severely warned over the incident.
