PM Says Hand Grenade Exploded In The Hands Of A Mob: No Attack On Buddhist Monk

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe assured that the government was taking action to enforce law and order and ensure security across the Kandy district. 

"The armed forces, STF and police have been deployed and instructed to be prepared to control any kind of tension. I appeal to the public to act peacefully to safeguard law and order in your areas," the Prime Minister tweeted.

He also rubbished reports saying a Buddhist monk was injured due to a grenade explosion. 
 
The Premier said a grenade had been exploded in the hands of an unruly mob. 
He also urged all citizens not to entertain false news and rumours spreading communal hatred. 
Wickremesinghe added that the government would take stern action against those inciting violence.
