Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara this morning dispatched a special Police CID team to Digana in the aftermath of violence in the area.

The team will conduct investigations and submit its report to the IGP.

Violence erupted in Kandy after four Muslim men killed a Sinhalese three-wheel driver.

Mobs linked to ultra-Buddhist Sinhalese organizations descended on Kandy and caused mayhem on the streets, burning Muslim homes and establishments.

Police imposed curfew on Kandy yesterday, but lifted it this morning. However, in the areas of Digana and Pallakelle the curfew still prevails.

Meanwhile, the body of a 27-year-old youth was found in a burned house this morning.

Magisterial inquiries are underway.
