The Police curfew imposed on the Kandy district has been extended today, Police Headquarters said.

Accordingly, the curfew imposed until 6am today has been extended till 6pm in the Teldeniya and Pallakelle areas.

A number of Muslim-owned businesses and houses were burned by unruly mobs last morning after four Muslim men killed a Sinhalese trishaw driver due to a personal dispute.

Stalwarts of several hardcore Sinhala Buddhist organizations were present in the area and they were instrumental in inciting racially motivated violence.

Over 20 people currently remain in Police custody for causing anti-Muslim violence in the area.
