The situation in Theldeniya, Digana and Kandt areas is peaceful at the moment, the Police Department sources said.

The police curfew imposed until 6 am today has now been lifted and people are returning to normalcy, they also added . 

The schools in the area remain closed and the Police Special Task Force is still providing security to prevent recurrence of racially motivated violence. 

Several Muslim owned businesses and houses were burnt down by unruly mobs last morning after four Muslim men killed a Sinhalese Trishaw driver due to a personal dispute. 

Stalwarts of several hardcore Sinhala Buddhist organizations were present in the area and they were instrumental in inciting racially motivated violence. 

Over 20 people currently remain in Police custody for causing anti-Muslim violence in the area.
