Justice and Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Athukorale said today she was willing to give up her two ministries for the betterment of the government.
"I am willing to give up both of my ministries if that is the need of the hour. I have conveyed this to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe," Athukorale said, addressing a meeting at the Foreign Employment Bureau today.
Athukorale, the first female Justice Minister in Sri Lanka, said she demonstrated her capability during the six months she served as the Justice Minister.
"I may be here today. I may take up a new responsibility tomorrow. I have informed the Prime Minister that I am willing give up my two positions. Also, I am willing to take up any other responsibility to serve the country better," she told her staff.
"We are committed to serve the public. Our fuel bills are borne by the public. As long as they pay for our bills, we should be ready to serve them. That has been my principle throughout my political career," she added.
Previously Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka also said he did not wish to continue in his position. He said he was ready to sacrifice his ministerial positions for the betterment of the party.
