'De facto leader' of the Sri Lanka Podujana Party former President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday indicated that the current government would continue for another two years.
"This government will only last two more Vesak poya days," Rajapaksa said, while responding to questions of journalists within the Parliamentary premises yesterday.
Rajapaksa made this remark amidst claims by some Joint Opposition and UPFA MPs that they had the majority support in Parliament and were in a position to topple the UNP-led government.
"That's the nature of governments. Governments can be formed and toppled."
The former President maintained that he would ready to support if the President wanted to appoint an SLFP MP as the Prime Minister.
"But, we will not support UNP Prime Ministers," Rajapaksa added.
However, President Maithripala Sirisena has already decided to continue the current government with UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister.
