Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said four top diplomats held talks with him on the current political situation in the country.
Speaking to media at Temple Trees, The Prime Minister said the new Ambassador of China, the Ambassador of the Unite States, the High Commissioner of India and the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom held talks with him.
However, the Prime Minister did not disclose the exact topics discussed at the meetings.
The diplomatic community in Sri Lanka had urged the government many a time over the past week to find a solution to the current political deadlock. Their general opinion seems to be that the current government must continue for another two years and bring about promised political and social reforms.
Earlier his week, US Ambassador Athul Keshap and Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandu met President Maithripala Sirisena in an attempt to diffuse the current political crisis.
The top diplomats, in two separate meetings, have informed President Sirisena to find a speedy solution to the current issue, without jeopardizing the political stability in Sri Lanka.
They had indicated that an agreement with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe would bring the current crisis to an end. However, some of President Sirisena's close advisers are preventing the President from arriving at an agreement with Prime Minister Wickremesinghe.
