At a special discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena a short while ago, the Joint Opposition has pledged support to form a UPFA government.
"We will support the President without any conditions," MP Dinesh Gunawardena said, after the meeting.
He also added that the Joint Opposition members would not accept portfolios in the government, but give support for progressive decisions.
At the meeting, the President had said he would seek advice from the Attorney General and legal experts on removing Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
However, the UPFA still does not have a clear majority in Parliament. It needs the support of about 17 UNP MPs to form a government with a clear majority.
