Former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan alias karuna Amman, commenting on the result of the Local Government election said, both President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe must quit the government.
"The President and the Prime Minister must resign as both of them are responsible for the defeat. Had it happened in a European country, both the President and the Prime Minister would have resigned by now," the former Deputy Minister, also a former vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, said, addressing a public meeting in Batticaloa, today.
"Their resignation," the former military chief of the LTTE said, "should be a voluntary one, not a forced one."
Muralitharan contested the Local Government election under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna an managed to win several seats from the Batticaloa district. He said it was a great achievement for the party as it was formed just a year ago.
He also assured the public that he would engage in 'progressive politics' doing justice to the people who voted for him.
However, many political observers said Karuna's election analysis was much 'saner' than that of the advisors of President Maithripala Sirisena.
"In the President's case, the one who got 12% of votes has asked the person who got 34% to quit the government. The first to quit the government should be the one who got 12% votes. This is no rocket science," a veteran political analyst said, adding that Amman, who did not receive a formal education, had done his maths more accurately.
