President Maithripala Sirisena is to make a special statement on Friday, on the future of the government, Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
The President's statement comes in the wake of his failed attempt to get Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe removed after the defeat at the Local Government election.
The SLFP Ministers, led by President Sirisena, threatened to quit the government if Wickremesinghe remained the Prime Minister.
All parties of the United National Front then decided to let the SLFP go as the former was in a position show the majority in Parliament. They also resolved to form a government of its own, with Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister.
However, it looks as if Sirisena has no other option but to accept Wickremesinghe as his Prime Minister. The SLFP ministers also seem to be helpless after the UNP decided to 'let them go.'
Despite their initial threats, they continue to remain in the government, rather sheepishly.
