Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has called all party leaders of the United National Front to Temple Trees for a special meeting at 6.30 pm.
The meeting comes in the wake of the Prime Minister's discussions with UNP back-benchers this morning, at Temple Trees, this morning. At the meeting, they decided to form an independent UNP government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister was also scheduled to meet another group of MPs, this evening, at Temple Trees.
Informed political sources said the party leaders of the United National Front would discuss the formation of an independent government, at the meeting.
The Tamil National Alliance, issuing a statement this afternoon said, it would only offer conditional support to the UNP on progressive reforms addressing the national issue.
