The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), led by President Maithriapala Sirisena, is currently facing a political volcano with the results of the Local Government election.
It is learnt that several senior Cabinet Ministers of the SLFP have decided to resign from their ministerial portfolios in the unity government.
They are likely to align with the Joint Opposition, led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
They are of the strong belief that the SLFP members have no right to be in the government in the light of the people's mandate expressed at the Local Government election.
Informed political sources said they would soon sought a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss their future course of action.
