Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya instructed media institutions not to run any statement by President Maithripala Sirisena or Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. 

Issuing a statement, Deshapriya said, " We have got complaints that President and Prime Minister might release statements to media today." 

He said the media could carry those statements after the conclusion of voting. 

The Elections Commissioner also requested all social media users to refrain from promoting any candidate or party.
