The Sri Lankan government is yet to issue a statement on the senior military officer who showed throat-slitting gestures to protesting Tamils in London.

Defence Attaché Brigadier Priyanka Fernando currently working at the Sri Lankan diplomatic mission in London repeatedly mimed slitting throat gestures to hundreds of chanting Tamil protestors outside the High Commission premises. The video of the incident went viral over the past  two days.

Fernando also went on to show the Sri Lankan flag on his uniform to the protesters. 

“The UK government has clearly not done the due diligence to ensure that potential human rights violators are prevented from entering the UK and being allowed to hold office in the UK,” the International Truth and Justice Project said in a statement.

Many international observer's claimed that the military attache's gesture justified the demands of the Tamil protesters. The Sri Lankan government, however, is yet to explain its position on the conduct of the senior military officer.

Fernando was attached to the 59th Division of the Army during the final phase of the Eelam battle.
