A farcical dance featuring girls carrying laptops, which has been included in Sri Lanka's Independence Day procession, has earned contempt and ridicule on social media platforms.
Although Sri Lanka's Independence Day celebration is scheduled to take place on Sunday (February 04), some photographs and a video footage of the rehearsals of this strange Laptop dance have been leaked to social media.
It appears that the dance is aimed at symbolizing the technological progress Sri Lanka achieved over the past seven decades.
The procession of which this Laptop Dance will be a key feature will take place after Independence Day military parade, at Galle Face.
However, many who commented on the dance on social media described it as "odd" and "ridiculous". They also predicted that the "Laptop dance" would earn the contempt of the world. Some even urged Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to pull the 'Laptop Dance' out of the independence Day agenda.
Sri Lanka's Independence Day celebrations will take place on February 04 under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, and the countess will attend the event as guests of honour.
