Justice Minister Thalatha Atukorale said certain political orphans were attempting to tarnish the UNP's image using the Treasury bonds scandal.
"Those political orphans have shown their bankruptcy," she added, hitting out at parties criticizing the UNP over the bond issue.
Atukorale, addressing an election meeting, said the UNP had recommended that former Finance Minister Ravi karunanayake should step down from the Assistant Leader's position of the party until the conclusion of the investigations.
"No other government in Sri Lanka had recommended action against its own members over corruption investigations. It means that there is no differentiation between members of the government and the opposition when it comes to corruption investigations," she said.
Atukorale also added that the current government would continue until 2020 and any plans to change the government after the LG elections would only be a pipe dream.
