President Maithripala Sirisena said every ethnicity in Sri Lanka played a part in electing him as the President to establish freedom and democracy in the country.
"When they elected me as the President," he said, "they also wanted me to establish a clean political culture."
He made these remarks addressing a public rally held in Batticaloa, yesterday (21).
In his address, the President said that the people of the country should not pardon the persons who robbed the public funds.
"I too am not ready to pardon anyone," he added.
He also added that a new body would be established to work with him to solve issues of the people while accelerating the development work of the Batticaloa District, and further said that to achieve success in this process the SLFP should be victorious at the forthcoming local government polls.
"I will always stand for the rights of the people irrespective of their differences," the President also said, at the meeting.
