It has now been revealed that President Maithripala Sirisena is yet to share a copy of the report of the Presidential Commission on Bond Issue with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Copies of the report have already been handed over to Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy and Bribery Commission DG Sarath Jayamanne. Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya has also been given a copy.
However, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is also the Policy Planning and Economic Affairs Minister, is yet to have access to the report of the commission.
President Sirisena has promised to table the report in Parliament on January 17. The debate on the findings of the report is likely to debated on January 23.
Informed political sources said delaying the tabling of the report was a tactical move to move the debate closer to the Local Government election.
"It was not a Herculean task to table the report in Parliament on January 10. The President made a speech on the findings on the report a week ago, on January 03. It is clear that there is some political manoeuvring," he explained.
