President Maithripala Sirisena today suggested to name the newly opened Rajagiriya flyover after Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera,a pioneer of the opposition coalition which brought Sirisena to power.
The President made this remark at the opening of the Rajagiriya flyover this morning. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and several other ministers attended the event. '
The Rajagiriya flyover, which was constructed 12 months ahead of schedule, was declared open to mark the 3rd anniversary of the unity government.
President said the Rajagiriya flyover was one of the most significant road development projects expeditiously completed by the present Government.
President Sirisena recalled that the people of Sri Lanka made him the head of state three years ago to commence a new journey ending an era where democracy, freedom, social rights and fundamental rights were suppressed.
The President also said he was able to strengthen Sri Lanka's image internationally, while overcoming many challenges which hampered the country's progress.
