Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews are currently being considered for the captaincy of Sri Lanka's ODI cricket team.
Sri Lanka Cricket sources said Chandimal was the front-runner for the position but some selectors had raised concerns about his poor strike rate in ODIs.
Although former Captain Angelo Mathews is a solid alternative, his fitness issues have bothered the selectors. Mathews is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and is likely to miss the first match of the ODI series in Bangladesh.
However, Chandimal's impressive record as the Test captain has impressed the selectors. The SLC today said Thisara Perera would not continue as the captain of the ODI team.
Meanwhile, prominent sports psychologist Dr. Phil Jauncey began his stint with the Sri Lankan cricket team today. He will work alongside Head Coach Chandika Hathurusinghe on enhancing performance of the national cricket team.
