Former Health Minister and veteran politician Siva Obseyesekara passed away.

The former Minister was 88 at the time of her demise. 

The wife of former MP J.P. Obeyesekera, Siva was well-respected among the rank and file of the SLFP. She was a prominent figure in the Sirimavo Bandaranaike government from 1970 -77.

She represented the Mirigama electorate and was one of the founding members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.  

After her defeat at the General election in 1977, she retired from politics and maintained a low profile.

Obseyesekara was also honored with the deshamanya award for her service to the Sri Lankan health sector.
