Six director board members of SriLankan Airlines have tendered their letters of resignation.
The move, the airline sources said, was aimed at facilitating the restructuring of the cash-strapped company.
Informed government sources said their letters of resignation would be accepted and a new members would be appointed to the board of directors.
SriLankan airlines Chairman Ajith Dias previously said the airline would face closure by March, next year, in the absence of restructuring.
The current management of the airline has come under severe criticism from various quarters for failing to carry out effective restructuring.
The development took place a day after President Maithripala Sirisena stated that he would soon appoint a Presidential Commission to probe into SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka.
